🏰 #29 Three growth tactics you don't want to miss + [Free Resource]
+ Awesome Google Looker Studio template for SEO analysis
Hey, It's Mariano.
Wishing you a lovely Saturday from 🏰 SaaS-HQ.com
Welcome to my newsletter. Every week I send:
✅ 1 to 3 bite-sized case studies to grow your SaaS
✅ 1 to 3 curated resources from top-notch experts
Let’s dive in!
[Bite-sized case studies]
GROWTH
1) Boost your conversions with gamification
Gamification can also work for B2B SaaS products.
The more you reward your users, the more likely they are to stay.
Let’s see an example:
ProdPad's free trial starts standard, but users can earn more time by completing the onboarding tasks and key product actions like creating a roadmap, inviting teammates, or watching tutorials.

Create incentives and lead users toward the aha-moment 🥕
This gamified approach, with progress bars, virtual badges, and extended trials, boosts user engagement, product understanding, and ultimately, conversion rates to paid customers.

Notion offers credits to extend the trial period.
Activation is just one area for gamification, but a great one to get you started.
Leave a comment if you know other good example of gamification in SaaS (could be yours!)

2) How to steal the spotlight from your competitors on Google Ads.
Identify competitor URLs
Go to Audience manager in Google Ads and create a custom audience
Select: People who browse websites similar to…
Add your competitor URLs
Tailor your ads to match their audience's interests with a better offer.
You can use this for direct competitors or to "steal" audience from companies in the same industry.

3) Most marketers are blind about their attribution
Understanding where your users come from can be a real challenge.
Especially in early-stage startups, when the tracking stack is lighter and measurement methods are less developed than in scale-ups.
But in any case, tracking does not tell you everything. A user from an “organic” source can actually come from word of mouth, a branding campaign, or a mix of many other touchpoints.
Last-click models (the most used when it comes to attribution) also introduced some biases in understanding attribution: they tend to overestimate the importance of bottom-funnel channels (like SEA) over top-funnel channels (like an influencer campaign).
This situation can influence you to cut channels that actually work but are not properly represented in your attribution mix.
So, how to improve this attribution blindness?
→ Ask your users how they heard about you 💬
💌 During the onboarding flow, or through an email or push notification, send a survey.
Bonus point: allow multiple answers. Some users will indicate more than one source, pointing to the importance of multi-touchpoint efficiency.
☎️ If you have a sales team, they can ask “How did you hear about us?” during their discovery questions.
Will it solve all your attribution problems? For sure no.
But that’s another source of truth, coming on top of the classic tracking. Which will likely give more credit to your top-funnel actions.
And very easy to implement.

3) Best practices for responding to Net Promoter Scores (NPS)
If you want to maximize the effectiveness of Net Promoter Score (NPS) feedback, consider adopting a consistent approach for each customer segment:
For Detractors: Promptly reach out with empathy to address their concerns, showing a genuine commitment to resolving their issues and improving their experience.
For Passives: Engage them to better understand their needs and identify opportunities to elevate their satisfaction, nudging them toward becoming promoters.
For Promoters: Acknowledge their positive feedback and loyalty, encouraging them to share their experiences and continue their support, reinforcing positive perceptions.

It’s a marketplace that allows you to buy or sell subscribers (via referrals).

→ A new channel of monetization.
Give it a try, it’s hard to find new good performing channels!

PS: In my last job, I helped the founders of a SaaS company go from €1M to $2.2M. I want to add $1M to my next success case. Is that you?
